The course will reconstruct the complex itinerary of modern and contemporary political thought, examining ideas and key concepts that contributed to the formation of the state, its development, and its crisis.

The examination will verify:
-the knowledge and comprehension of the classics of the history of political thought in a broad period (modern and contemporary age, with Plato and Aristoteles for the ancient age)
-the correct use of the specific terminology
-the development of critical capacity
-the capacity of contrasting different texts, ideas, periods and authors.

Starting November 10th, 2021, with the return to 100% classroom capacity, the exam will be written .
The written test consists of two parts:
1. A cross-check test consisting of 15 questions. Minimum result to be admitted to the second part of the 11/15 exam
2. 4 questions: 2 on the manual part, 2 on the text of your choice.
Only Erasmus students and those who cannot participate in the written test in person for documented reasons (as provided for by the regulation of the Scuola di Scienze Politiche) can take the oral exam on the wewbex platform.

I
The first part of the course will introduce the tools of the history of political thought and the main authors of the history of political thought from Machiavelli to Hegel.
II
The second part will focus on the main issues in the history of nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century political ideas, with particular reference to concepts such as people, nation, society.
III module
The third module will deal with some currents of contemporary thought.
