Oral examination. For non-attendants, a written text of about 20 pages with footnotes and bibliography is also required
Course program
The course will first examine the most important aspects of the years of American neutrality, President Wilson's efforts to reach a shared peace among the belligerent European nations and the reasons for the United States to go to war. It will also consider the US military organization on the eve of its participation in the conflict and the heated debate between pacifists and interventionists who animated the American society of the time. It will also address the American commitment to the battlefields, particularly the French ones, and the US support for the Italian territory, above all on the humanitarian level. It will also address the theme of Wilson's fortune in Italy on the eve of peace agreements.
